Will Apple make it to the top with the iPhone 11 (Pro)? What does the first Apple Watch made of titanium look like? And was there a “one more thing”? We answer the most important questions about today’s Apple event.
Apple Arcade and Apple TV +
The advantage of our summary: We can simply skip the three game demos for Apple Arcade – in favor of an update to the price: 4.99 euros will cost the subscription service for App Store games a month. And for the whole family. One month you can test the offer for free. It starts on 19 September.
4.99 euros will cost the streaming service Apple TV +. If you buy a new iPhone, an iPad or a Mac, you will get one year for free. Start day is the 1st of November.
iPad (7th generation)
Apple’s marketing boss Greg Joswiak introduces the 7th generation iPad and has good news for fans of the Apple tablet. Because the new model could almost be confused with an iPad Pro: It has a slightly larger and brighter 10.2-inch display (so the rumors were true!) And supports Apple’s Smart Keyboard as well as the Apple Pencil. The tablet should be faster as well. Starting price: 329 dollars.
Apple Watch Series 5
Many Apple Watch users have been waiting for this: the display of the new Apple Watch Series 5 is always on: If you do not look at it, watchOS shuts down the brightness a bit to save energy. Instead of about 60 times per second, the display is updated only once per second. So the battery of the clock should continue to hold for about a day.
Aluminum (completely recycled), stainless steel, titanium (in silver and space gray) and ceramics (this time only in white): In so many versions, the smartwatch has never been. There are also models created in collaboration with Nike and Hermès – including, for the first time, an Apple Watch Hermès in Space Black.
You can order the new Apple Watch models immediately, they are available from 20 September. The aluminum models are available at 449 euros. Stainless steel costs at least 749 euros. With titanium case (part of the “Edition” collection) costs the new Apple Watch at least 849 euros, from ceramics 1.399 euros. As before, the larger 44-mm model costs 50 euros extra.
Furthermore, there will be the Apple Watch Series 3, starting at 229 euros (329 with cellular modem).
The iPhone XR successor is actually called iPhone 11. Even with the colors, the rumor mill was right. The presentation was all about one thing: the new camera (s) of the smartphone. On the back there is now an additional wide-angle lens – in a fairly large rectangular Kameruckuckel.
New is, among other things, a night mode for better shots in the dark and a slow-motion mode for selfies with the front camera (“Slofies”). Video recordings should also be better with the iPhone 11.
Price: from 799 euros.
iPhone 11 Pro & iPhone Pro Max
The first iPhone with the suffix Pro had to earn its name already, reveals Apple about the development process: The start on the back – a single piece of glass with a new matt surface and the most advanced camera module ever. The front features a new Super Retina XDR display that incorporates technologies from the Mac Pro Dispay. Whether this also makes itself felt in comparison to the direct predecessor, will have to show tests.
Inside, Apple’s new A13 Bionic processor is said to be so efficient that Apple promises four hours more battery life for the iPhone 11 Pro – compared to its direct predecessor, the iPhone XS. The iPhone XS Max (the display sizes have remained the same in both models) even increases by five hours.
Three lenses on the back are intended to give (professional) photographers even more choice in the choice of subjects. It should help an ultra wide-angle lens, which has a field of view of 120 degrees. By iOS update Apple wants to submit another function called “Deep Fuse” for the Triple Camera, which should improve images in every detail. From a total of nine shots, the software looks for the best pixels for the ultimate photo.
Incidentally, the rumor mill has not guessed a detail in advance: the iPhone 11 Pro (Max) is in a new color “Midnight Green”.
iOS 13 apparently comes on 19 September, one day before the launch of the new iPhones. iOS 13.1 should already follow on September 30th. That’s what Apple’s PR department told Macstory founder Frederico Viticci on the sidelines of today’s event.
